victorinox xavt 1 generation description
The Victorinox SwissChamp XAVT (often referred to as a “1st generation” or original, based on its 2006 introduction) is a specialized 91mm Swiss Army Knife, widely considered the largest and most complex model ever produced by the company before its later, similar “XXL” successors. Introduced in 2006 to replace the XXLT, it is targeted primarily at collectors rather than for daily carry.
Description and Key Features:
Capacity: It offers over 80 distinct functions packed into 15 layers of tools.
Dimensions: It retains a 91mm (3.5 inch) length but is exceptionally wide at roughly 65mm and weighs approximately 350-360 grams.
Components: The knife is assembled by hand, featuring 118 individual pieces and requiring over 500 different manufacturing operations.
Unique Electronics: The XAVT features composite scales (handles) that house a digital clock, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, and alarm, along with a white LED flashlight.
Tools: It includes all tools from the SwissChamp and SwissChamp XLT, plus special additions such as a pharmaceutical spatula, electrician’s blade, and pruner blade.
Revision: The model was revised in 2017 to include the Wenger-style Universal Wrench after the merger of the product lines.
The XAVT is known for its translucent Ruby Red scales and, due to its size and weight, is typically regarded as a “demonstration piece” or collector’s item.
