Description

The Victorinox Hercules (111mm) historically utilized a slide lock mechanism to secure its large spear-point blade. This mechanism features a button on the side scale that, when pulled down toward the handle base, releases the locking tension, allowing the blade to close. While older models used this system, many later iterations moved to a liner-lock.

Key Aspects of the Hercules Slide Lock:

Mechanism: A sliding button on the front scale (usually the left side) controls the lock.

Safety: The slide lock keeps the blade locked open for safety during use.

Ergonomics: Some users find the slide lock design more comfortable to hold compared to the liner-lock, as it lacks a protruding liner.

Maintenance: The mechanism can be prone to collecting pocket lint or debris.

Versatility: The Hercules is a 111mm, five-layer, 18-function tool, including pliers, saw, and scissors.

Note: The Hercules was transitioned to a liner-lock around 2017. The slide lock version is considered a classic “pre-2017” model.
