Description
The 2005 Leatherman Wave is the second generation (also known as the “New Wave”) of the popular multi-tool. It features all-locking tools, stronger pliers compared to its predecessor, and signature outside-accessible, one-handed opening blades.
Key Features and Description
Materials: The tool is constructed entirely from 100% stainless steel and was available in a standard stainless steel finish or a black oxide finish.
Dimensions: It has a closed length of approximately 4 inches (10.16 cm) and weighs around 8.5 ounces (241 g).
Outside-Accessible Tools: A groundbreaking feature at the time, four tools could be accessed and opened with one hand without unfolding the main pliers, much like a pocket knife. These included:
A main 420HC stainless steel straight-edge knife blade.
A serrated knife blade with a sheep’s foot shape for tasks like opening boxes.
A wood saw.
A file (with a diamond-coated side, a metal saw, and a standard file side).
Inside Tools: Opening the butterfly handles revealed the pliers and internal tools, all of which locked into place for safety:
Needle-nose and regular pliers with non-replaceable wire cutters.
A large bit driver for interchangeable bits (one Phillips #1-2 and 3/16″ bit was typically included, along with an eyeglass screwdriver bit).
Spring-action scissors.
Can and bottle openers.
A ruler stamped into the handles.
A small screwdriver and a medium screwdriver (these were fixed, not bit-based like the large driver).
A hidden lanyard hole could be accessed when the saw was open.
